The coat of arms of Bahamas portrays many national symbols.
The shield is supported by a marlin on the left and a flamingo on the right. At the top of the shield, you can see a shell representing the diverse marine fauna of the island; it rests on a blue, silver and gold helmet. The main symbol is a caravel, referring to the Santa Maria of Christopher Columbus and is surmounted by a sun. Inscribed on a gold ribbon, at the base of the coat of arms is the country’s national motto : "Forward Upward Onward Together" (Move up, move together). The flamingo stands on land whereas the marlin is on the sea, illustrating the insular nature of the island.
